The Question No Pastor Search Committee Asked Me

In all the interviews that I've done with pastor search committees, no one ever asked me,  "How do you practice hospitality?"

More than that, they didn't asked about biblical qualifications at all. No committee ever went through 1 Timothy 3 or Titus 1 and asked me if and how I was qualified to be a pastor.

I've done interviews, questionnaires, video calls, sit down interviews, questions with the whole church, and no one ever asked how I was gentle, self-controlled, not greedy, not overbearing, not quarrelsome, etc.

I was asked about Calvinism a lot, leadership, vision, family, preaching, evangelism, etc. I was once asked if I would lead the church to storm the U.S. Capitol building (I removed myself from consideration from that church). No one asked about being disciplined.

I'm not looking or interviewing for a new church. I've been thinking a lot about this lately because I've been evaluating myself and my character in light of those two passages. I realized that no one ever asked me about these things.  I write this so that maybe a search committee somewhere might decide that they should ask better questions of their candidates. If you help a church decide on a pastor, ask him how he practices hospitality.
